Participation in World Environment Day
Participation in World Environment DaySince 1974, United Nations had been celebrating
WED to encourage worldwide awareness and action for protection of the
environment. WED remained a huge event celebrated in over 70 countries
and the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MOEFCC)
also supported numerous events nationwide in its support. This year
India was chosen as the host country and the theme was Beat
Plastic Pollution.
On this occasion, a series of events, activities and initiatives were organised across the country. MoEFCC led the charge on behalf of the GoI. A five day conference-cum-exhibition from 1st June till 5th of June 2018 was organised in New Delhi. This event witnessed participation of the PM, Mr. Narendra Modi, Dr. Harsh Wardhan, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Mr. Erik Solheim, ED UNEP, CEOs of top FMCG companies, NGOs, State governments, UN bodies and International Agencies. ![]() Delhi Exhibition (02 to 05 June 2018)
The exhibition was inaugurated by the PM. The
PACE stall was at a prominent area, annexed to stalls of organisations
like ONGC, IPGL and Rajasthan Government. We set up huge posters about
positive characteristics of PET, recycling, presenting our members, etc.
Together with GEM Enviro, an RVM and various products like apparel and
toys were also showcased.
There was an estimated footfall of above 2000 visitors during the four days of the exhibition. We had important officials from Government, CPCB, corporate, media, NGOs, academic institutions, associations and recyclers visit our stall. ![]() Gandhinagar Exhibition (05 June 2018)
Similar initiatives to commemorate WED were
undertaken by several state governments. Gujarat Pollution Control Board
organised a state-level conference-cum-exhibition on the 5th of June
2018. During the WED celebrations, along with Delhi, PACE participated
at the Gandhinagar exhibition too. It was inaugurated by the Gujarat CM,
Mr. Vijay Rupani and the Deputy CM, Mr. Nitinbhai Patel. Dignitaries
including the Minister of Environment, Secretary of State MOEFCC,
Chairman GPCB, also attended. It was a daylong event with about 20
exhibitors, mainly from public sector undertakings. Private
organisations including Reliance, Geocycle, JB Ecotex and GEM Enviro
also participated.
The PACE stall was graced by the presence of eminent personalities like the Gujarat CM, Mr.Vijay Rupani, State Cabinet Minister of Environment, Mr. Jaydrathsinh Parmar, Additional Chief Secretary, Mr. Arvind Agrawal and the Mayor of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Mr. Gautambhai Navalchand Shah. ![]() |
